About:

Eliminate Down is a fast-paced horizontal shooter for the Sega Mega Drive, known for its intense action, detailed backdrops, and unique weapon system that lets players choose the direction of fire—originally released in Japan on June 25, 1993. It quickly gained a cult following for its smooth gameplay and dark sci-fi aesthetic.

Inspiration:

While playing the game, I thought, “This is great—but wouldn’t it be even better if I could use the 6-button controller to switch weapons and adjust speed?”
Also, continues felt pointless—I’d restart a level with no power-ups, so I might as well just start over and not die at all.
That’s when I realised: I could fix this! 😄

Features:

This hack introduces a variety of improvements and a brand-new gameplay mode, all accessible via the options menu.

Remix Mode features individual weapon levelling, a redesigned HUD, a more forgiving power-down system after death, and the ability to restart a stage with the power-ups and score retained from the previous clear. Shield pickups are now stored and can be activated manually for better strategic control.

The mini-game has been updated to grant credits and unlock up to three cheats based on score.

Cleared stages become selectable from the menu, and both high scores and unlockables are saved to SRAM at the transition from game over to the SEGA logo.

Finally, the hack adds a speed cycle function for 3-button controllers and full directional weapon and speed control for 6-button controllers.
